“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places” (John 14:2). of Friday May 5, 2023

I was once asked if there was any sort of direction in which biological evolution was going. I replied that the only apparent “direction” over the past 600 million years was toward ever greater diversity. Every time a niche opens, a creature evolves to fill it. A more diverse population is a more stable population.

I believe this shows that God rejoices in both biological diversity that serves life and in diversity that serves the body of Christ. We all have our own spiritual gifts and our own ways of offering them to others. Even among those of us who follow Christ, the unity we seek in our communities is not uniformity. There is room for all of us in God’s house and I pray that we recognize each other’s value to the community.
