It is easy to find ourselves lost in these ever-troubled times. There are so many voices, pulling us in different directions. It's easy to lose our way, be confused about the right course of action, and doubt our sense of purpose as Christians.
In today’s gospel, Jesus hears a similar confusion coming from some of the apostles, who should know better. Despite all that they have experienced and all that they have heard, Thomas and Philip are still confronted by feelings of uncertainty and doubt, even given all that Jesus has said and done.
For us, our uncertainty may stem from having heard the gospel message so often that we become inured to it and its impact on our lives. Jesus might say to us, as he did to them, “Have I been with you so long a time and you still do not know me?” Yet Jesus is also quick to allay our fears. He tells us that he has gone ahead to prepare a dwelling place for us in his Father’s house. He assures us that he will come again to take us to himself, comforting us. We need only remember that Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.
