“I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do” (John 17:4). of Tuesday May 23, 2023

Children are an ambitious lot. They want to be presidents, pop stars, and sports heroes. Most of us don’t end up doing anything quite so glamorous with our lives when we grow up. Yet God gives every one of us work to do all the same. No matter what our skills, education, or opportunities, we are called to the work of discipleship—to love God, love ourselves, and love our neighbors. This is a big job. It means being available to others when we’re not in the mood. It means doing jobs just because they need doing. It may not seem glamorous, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Jesus, whatever I do today, help me give glory to you by doing it as your disciple.
