“Every day will I bless you…” (Psalm 145:2). of Tuesday September 12, 2023

A A

When a friend sneezes, we say, “God bless you.” When a neighbor brings in the groceries, we say, “God bless you.” It is a prayer that we are confident God will grant. Yet today, the psalmist reminds us to bless God every day. How do we do this? Perhaps in seven simple words: I love you; thank you; I’m sorry.

In so doing, we render God our love, no matter the struggles; we proclaim our heart’s gratitude for all the gifts we have received; and we offer our contrition for what we have done or for graced opportunities ignored.
As we cover the pool until next summer or pull out the rake for fallen leaves, may we bless God who, in turn, grants us the purpose to serve and the strength to be faithful.
