“When the river burst against it, it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed” (Luke 6:49). of Saturday September 16, 2023
I live in an area where flooding by huge rivers is a constant threat. If you live near the river, there is a considerable danger that your home will be destroyed by a flood. In 1993, thousands of homes were lost in what was then called a 500-year flood. Despite all the apparent danger, some people will not move from the river. I know that there can be many sentimental and practical reasons for remaining near the water, but sometimes, you just have to acknowledge the reality of the situation.
A faith built on shaky ground (or near a flood-prone river) is not a good plan. Jesus teaches us to love God and neighbor, to show mercy and compassion for the vulnerable, to seek forgiveness for our sins. Should we refuse to listen, the flood waters are certain to rise around us.
