Thanks to a poor sense of direction, I have wandered through parking lots in the rain and snow searching for my car. I have even looked in vain on the wrong level of a parking garage. Out of desperation, I finally managed to take note of landmarks and using them to guide me.
There have been times when I have also wandered through life working in jobs that were unfulfilling, clinging to addictions and relationships that were destructive. The daily practice of prayerfully noticing what enriches my life and what depletes it has helped me make changes that enhance my life and the lives of those around me. While I am often challenged to go beyond my attachments and fears, the practice has taught me that God’s will is not a burden but the fulfillment of my deepest desires.
